Island girl working on commission...

Captain Bob’s Boose Cruise on Koh Phi Phi, Thailand- I took on this second job for some extra cash and worked 3 hours a day and sold trips only working on commission. I made 300 Baht/ $9 a person :)

My goal was to sell at least two a day — sometimes I sold 7, sometimes I sold none… for the two months I worked for Canadian Bob, I alwayss had a good time and I was always ahead with money.

I split shifts with 3 other westerners– a girl from Finland and two Brazilian guys – We worked 7 days a week, but when your job requires you to sit on the road that leads to the beach and spark up a convo with every tourist that walks by — it doesn’t ever feel like much work :)

  3. Yes for sure. I worked the afternoon here and then didn’t have to work until the night at my other job :) They were sweet gigs.

  4. Hey! I used to work at a Thai restaurant over here in NJ.. never knew anything about Thai food or culture but in my short time working there I learned a lot..Out of curiosity, what’s your favorite Thai dish?

  5. Kate!! I would really love to ask you some questions about your journey because I have very similar dreams. Is there any way you can get in contact with me?

  6. Hey Kate,

I’ve decided to make the move to Thailand! I kind of just booked my ticket without even thinking about it. I was wondering if you needed a work VISA to get these jobs or if they just payed you under the table. Your entire blog has been very informative and I’m stoked to travel, live and meet a bunch of people.

  7. I found a couple great gigs on Koh Tao, and its personally just my favorite spot in Thailand. You need to make it a priority to go to Myanmar. Best trip in SE Asia I ever did. Get there now before bad tourism ruins it! Great blog!

  8. Kate,

Id appreciate some advice on my job hunt in Thailand. Please let me know of there is a way to contact you.

    Much thanks, safe travels
